Dear Patrons,
Welcome to the month of February and hey it’s a Leap Year as well. I hope all is going well in your worlds and once again it’s my pleasure to update you on just what’s taking place at Kit Carson R-1 School District.
GRADUATION
Though it’s still a few months away I just wanted to make sure that everyone was aware that this year graduation is Sunday May 20th at 2:00 p.m. We are hoping to have Baccalaureate at 12:30 p.m. and this is the same format that we used to follow before switching to Saturday night a few years ago. We made the change to Saturday because so many other area schools had their graduations on Sunday and many of you wanted to be able to attend multiple graduation exercises. However, state track now presents a conflict with Saturday night and thus the change.
The school calendar, which was adopted prior to the fiasco I caused last year in this area, indicates graduation is May 19th. That date is incorrect and we look forward to seeing you in a few months on May 20th.
SCHOOL EVENTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Congratulations to our junior high girls and boys basketball teams. The girls claimed the league title with a thrilling one point victory over Eads. Now I have to tell you a story about that game. I was visiting with Cheyenne Wells Superintendent Dave Mark and there were ten seconds left on the clock and we trailed by two points. I told Mr. Marx that Miranda Mitchek would win the game on a three point shot at the buzzer. Guess what she did just that. Congratulations to the Lady Cats and their coachers.
Our junior high boys earned a hard fought second place finish and they are a scrappy bunch of young basketball players I can tell you that. Junior High basketball was always my favorite sport to coach because of the enthusiasm and energy that those kids brought with them each and every day.
Our Ag students in December participated in a variety of speaking contests with Kelcie Smith, Terry Stansbury and Brooke Crawford representing the chapter.
Mrs. Kent has also been busy sponsoring both this years Junior High and High School Knowledge teams and the squads have represented the district very well in their competitions.
Also during the month of February the intensity of the high school basketball season picks up as district basketball finds itself just around the corner. As of this newsletter the girls find themselves rated in the top 10 of the state and the boy’s team has been extremely competitive in every game. |
